TOONHOOG is an Afrikaans Alternative Rock band from Pretoria, South Africa, formed in 2023.
Inspired by artists such as Fokofpolisiekar, Spoegwolf, Francois van Coke and Koos Kombuis, TOONHOOG draws from the raw energy and rebellious spirit of Afrikaans rock while carving out a sound distinctly their own.
Their music reflects the complexities of modern life through unapologetically bold songwriting, honest lyrics, and high-energy performances that resonate with a new generation.

Vocals
Born in Middelburg and raised in the Moot, Pretoria, Alden discovered his passion for music at 16 during a solo performance at his school revue. After finishing school in 2021, he worked while studying as a medical laboratory assistant, and later co-founded TOONHOOG in March 2023 to bring his vision of forming a band to life.
Lead Guitar
Born and raised in Pretoria, Armand combines a strong academic background in physics and applied mathematics with a love for rock and roll. He taught himself guitar through online resources, performed with acts such as Zadelhoff and Manlynn and the Groove, and brings experience, precision, and a melodic edge to TOONHOOG.
Bass
At fourteen, Florian dreamed of playing in a band while inspired by posters of Nirvana, Metallica, and Pearl Jam. Over the years, he has performed internationally across cities including Cairo, Moscow, Lagos, Vienna, and Manila, before continuing that journey in South Africa. His bass playing brings depth, movement, and touring experience to TOONHOOG.
Drums
Raised in a music-loving home with strong influences from classic rock and pop of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Donovan developed a passion for rhythm early on. He thrives on live energy, collaboration, and the connection built with an audience. Since joining TOONHOOG in 2025, the band’s dedication and creativity have strengthened his drive in the music scene.
